Completed first slab-on-grade pour, 1501 Lavaca.
On July 23, 2024, the project celebrated its first slab-on-grade pour.
The Capitol Complex II Team celebrates the first slab-on-grade concrete pour.
Earlier this month, the project team completed excavation of the sites when the prescribed depth on the Mall section of the project was reached or bottomed out, as it is known in the construction industry. To acknowledge this milestone, the team gathered for a celebratory lunch onsite on July 17, 2024.
The construction site is a busy hive of concurrent activities, all working together to meet an aggressive completion timeline. The piers and columns were set, and the next important milestone was the arrival of the concrete.
The boom of a concrete pump truck extends down into the 1501 Lavaca site. During the pour, a row of trucks provided a steady supply of concrete to the pump trucks.
Early in the morning of July 23, two concrete pump trucks arrived at the Lavaca site. Over the next four hours, 42 trucks delivered 390 cubic yards of concrete to the concrete pump trucks. The long booms of the pump trucks carried the concrete 67 feet down to the bottom of the excavated site to pour the first slab-on-grade for the new building. By noon on Wednesday, July 24, the concrete was dry and hardened, and the TFC project team was onsite to inspect the first slab.
This process will be repeated many times for each floor of the structures until all levels of the underground garages and building are formed, thus topping out the buildings.
